Reed Krakoff is one of our go-to brands: we’ve been shopping the Madison Avenue boutique every season for chic bags, modernist shoes, and powerful separates. VT spoke with the mastermind behind the eponymous label (who is also the creative force behind Coach) about art, music, inspiration and, of course, handbags.

What inspires you most creatively? A combination of art, film, travel and pop culture.

How do you typically begin your design process? There is not a beginning or an end. For me, the process is fluid.

We are sure that many women have inspired you through the years, but if you had to name one, who would be your ultimate muse of all time? My wife Delphine.

We know you have worked on special projects throughout your career, do you have a favorite? I really enjoyed shooting “The Fighters of the UFC” and recently, I traveled all over the world to capture the influential women behind the art world, which will come out this summer in a book published by Assouline called “Women in Art.”

What music gets you going in your studio these days? Miles Davis, Afrojack, Beastie Boys, Biggie Smalls, The Killers.

Of all the beautiful things you have created, is there one item that you would consider a greatest hit? At the moment, the Python Track Tote, but I am always thinking about the next thing that women will want [and can’t live without] to add to their wardrobe.

What is your most memorable career moment? It hasn’t happened yet.

If you had to choose only one, what is your favorite store in the world? I’d have to say my store on Madison, which my wife Delphine and I designed together.

Are you obsessed with Pinterest like we are? Pinterest is great for interiors and design inspiration. I am just really getting into social media and working on launching a personal Pinterest page that links my art and design interests with my brand and love for fashion.

If you weren’t a fashion designer, what would you be? A Landscape architect or a painter.
